My Newest Obsession...

So anyone out there who is as upset with the lack of new TV as I am...I have been watching DVD seasons of shows and catching up on the movies I have missed through NetFlix. I have a few recommendations for those who need some mindless entertainment to fill some good TV/Movie watching time:
  • All seasons of The Office-Really, I think that Dwight just gets funnier the more times you watch him mace Andy and being able to watch Michael grill his foot on the George Foreman grill over and over again really is hilarious! Good news: new episodes of The Office will start airing April 10!
  • Sydney White-For any Amanda Bynes fans who may have missed this movie in the theaters, this is a modern day telling of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs that is adapted to Sydney White and the 7 Dorks. Plus-for any Gilmore Girls fans, Doyle is one of the dorks...Grumpy and he is hilarious!
  • Indiana Jones-In honor of the new movie coming out soon, we have started to watch the old classics. Note-even though I have seen it probably a hundred times, the snake scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark still makes me curl up in the fetal position and start hyperventilating! Bad:there are some boys in my life who before watching the movie with me did not have the information that I am terrified of snakes...now they are aware and probably plotting their next prank!
  • Heroes Season 1-So I had never had any desire to watch this show by any means, but my friend Marisa had the first season and said that I would definitely love it. She was right, I am totally obsessed! It is a quirky, suspenseful, super-hero shoe that has a bunch of twists and turns that I haven't totally figured out. Another plus for Gilmore Girls fans, Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) is one of the main characters and he is awesome! Watching this show also renews my love of all things Superhero so I ask the question: If you could have any superhero powers, what would you want and why?

Earthquake felt in Logan!

So, I don't want to overshadow my favorite Ryan, but there was an earthquake this morning that woke me up out of bed! It was centered in Wells, Nevada and was a 6.0 felt all the way up to Boise! While it is a little disconcerting thinking of all the people here who don't know what to do in an earthquake, I felt very safe knowing that I would stay calm if hit by the BIG ONE! It just rattled us a little, but I checked and the buildings that I live and work in are retrofitted. Phew! Let's just hope for a lot of little ones...going through one big earthquake in one's lifetime in plenty- some people will never forget where they were on a certain October day in 1989!

I Heart Ryan Reynolds

So, I went to Layton on Saturday to meet up with Laura and have some much needed sister time and we went and saw the movie "Definitely, Maybe". Let me just say that it was a great chick flick told from the guys' perspective. It also renewed my love for Ryan Reynolds...you may remember him as Berg from the show "Two Guys and a Girl". He is tall and yummy.
Other good things that happened this weekend:
  • Went to Park City for the first time and shopped the outlets. Got a lot of clothes for very little cash which makes me really happy. Also recommended: eat lunch at the Loco Lizard-you will not be disappointed with the Mexican cuisine!
  • Found out that I am going to have a niece: Samantha Rose Barlow to be born on July 11-now I can shop for little niece clothes, little niece shoes, little niece toys...you get the picture, I am an excited Aunt!
  • Got a new calling: Ward Program Coordinator. I am no longer in charge of activities, but I am in charge of putting some, as the Bishop puts it, "spice and color into the bulletin". Not quite sure how much spice and color is appropriate for Sacrament Meeting, but we will find out!

Happy Single Awareness Day!

So I figured that I should have a good attitude about this February 14th...mostly because I saw more than one couple on campus in emotional distress. The most awkward, though was the couple that was breaking up whilst on the shuttle to the stadium with me. The conversation went kind of like this:
Boy: Stop following me! We are over and you just can't get it through your head!
Girl: (Says something quiet that none of us can hear)
Boy: We are through. That's all, we are through. Get it through your head that we are done. Don't call me, text me, come over to my house. We are through!
Girl: Can't we talk about this?
Boy: What's the point of talking about it? We have talked about it 10 times and it is just the same old bullcrap. We are done! Get it through your stupid head, we are done!
Girl: Well, if you won't talk about it, I guess we are.
Then, she walks off the bus and boy sits there with his head in his hands.

That was just one of the awkward couple-fighting conversations that I heard this week that made my singleness not seem so bad.

Good thing of the week: 4-wheel drive in the middle of a blizzard and my brother Mike getting into the California Highway Patrol! I hope he gets used to me calling him "Ponch"

A January in Review:

So, did January go by super fast to anyone else? Here are a few highlights of my month:
  • New roommate Michelle. She is FANTASTIC! After the whole fiasco with the last roommate (we had to kick her out because she was causing major problems) it is nice to want to be home and hanging out again.
  • Logan has been buried in snow! We have been receiving record levels of snow and there is no end in sight. Makes me happy that I have already learned how to ski and even happier that my Dad and Bro are coming first week in March to enjoy the wonderful white stuff.
  • School. I am in a Science class this semester about Energy and it's impact on the Environment taught by a Nuclear Physicist who believes in Extra Terrestrials...in fact we get extra credit if we have a close encounter with someone or something out of this world. Enough said.
  • Work. We are setting records of how many people are being admitted to Utah State. I wonder what my life will be like when I am only working 40 hours...ah the free time. I really love my job and when I get frustrated, I just have to think that I am usually sending letters to people that get really happy when they see those words "Congratulations and welcome to Utah State University!"
  • Got to go to a workshop on Violence in the Workplace. This is not super newsworthy, but did you know that you are 85% more likely to get attacked at work by a frustrated co-worker than a random customer?
  • There is becoming less of me to love....6 lbs. less so far. I am working on being a lot more healthy and going to the gym more regularly, so stay tuned for the updates.
  • New Pet Peeve: People asking the question, "So why are you not married?" While I do appreciate that they still have to wonder, I am not sure exactly how to answer this question...it is usually asked by people who don't know me very well, so the dozens of sarcastic answers that come into my mind are not so appropriate. And...note to all of the blissfully happy married people: being single does not equal being miserable!
